Extension Writers Discussion • Re: How to replace a text in language/xx/mail with an extension?

Hi,

several pages and here in the forum describe how to edit the .txt files in the Language folder. This is an unsatisfactory solution because the language files are overwritten during an update. If the person who makes the update does not know about the text change, the texts are gone and nobody checks whether, for example, a registration email is correct.

This is why we need a solution for replacing individual files in language/(lang)/email. I have not found an approach for this in the documentation or in the code.
All file edits, even also in language files, should be treated as modified files.
Jut keep a file with the changes applies and redo those on the new language files.

You might also want to consider using the Changed files package when updating. If a phpBB file is in that package, it's a certainty that it has been changed.
So : if it's not in that package, it doesn't need replacing.
