I think .pdf files can only be shown as a download link.
I mean, in order to see the document inside of a .pdf file you have to open it.
And in order to open it you would have to download the file so you would have the actual file to open.
For you it would be nice if there was a script that would popup a window showing the document when you clicked the .pdf file.
Even if there was a script for that you would probably need an extension to make that happen.
But I no idea if you can even view a document in a .pdf file without opening it.
